Our Story

Created by Birders, for Birders

Bird Peeple started the way most good things do. With a lot of time spent watching birds instead of doing whatever I was supposed to be doing that day.

I'm a birder myself. Mostly watching from my home office in the country, camera and binoculars within arm's reach. No fancy setup, just a good phone and a Canon Mirrorless, plus a window feeder that's talked me out of more deadlines than I'll admit to. If a plan for your day has ever gotten quietly rearranged by a chickadee, you already know what this brand is about.

Why a Chickadee?

If you're wondering why a black-capped chickadee ended up as the face of Bird Peeple, meet the culprit. This particular bird (or one who's clearly studied under her, I honestly can't rule out a rotating cast at this point) shows up at my window feeder like clockwork, tilts her head, and gives me a look that says "the buffet is getting low, and you know it." Chickadees are bold, a little nosy, and somehow always the first ones brave enough to check out something new at the feeder, which felt like exactly the right personality to build a brand around.

As for the name, that one's simpler than it sounds. "Peeps" is what birders call the little guys, the chickadees, the finches, the ones who show up daily and start to feel like regulars. Somewhere between "my peeps" and "people who love birds," Bird Peeple just kind of wrote itself. If you've ever caught yourself talking to a bird like it's a coworker, congratulations, you're already one of us.

Every design starts with an actual bird and an actual behavior, usually after I've fallen a little too far down a research rabbit hole. One of my favorites came from reading about crows, specifically how they remember the people who treat them well and keep coming back as friends. That sent me down a whole path of learning how to earn their trust with food, and eventually that became a T-shirt. Every piece of original Bird Peeple artwork traces back to something real. A species trait, a backyard habit, or an inside joke only another birder would fully get.

This is what that trust actually looks like. My office chair sits right next to the window, so this goldfinch was maybe four to six inches away when I took this, completely unbothered by a camera lens that close. Window feeders do something binoculars from a distance can't, they let a bird get comfortable coming to you, close enough that eventually those few inches stop feeling like anything at all. If earning a bird's trust just to design a T-shirt sounds a little unconventional, well, my Peeps and I don't disagree. We just think it's worth it.

These aren't stock designs slapped onto blanks from a print-on-demand catalog. They're original artwork, made by someone who's out there with binoculars just like you are, printed on quality Gildan Softstyle fabric built to hold up to real wear.

Whether you're buying for yourself or for the birder in your life who always has "just one more minute" before heading back outside, thanks for being here. Birding looks better on you!
